Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens

Who the devil made it? JJ Abrams

Who the hell is in it? Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Andy Serkis

What do we know? Only what the now infamous teaser trailer has told us. Boyega seems to be a stormtrooper, the Millenium Falcon is back and there's a controversial new lightsaber that has people with too much time on their hands theorising on its practicalities.

Ex Machina

Who the devil made it? Alex Garland

Who the hell is in it? Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander

What do we know? Novelist turned screenwriter Garland makes his directorial debut with this hard sci-fi tale of a lowly computer programmer (Gleeson) who is introduced to the advanced work of his boss in creating a beautiful android (Vikander).

Jupiter Ascending

Who the devil made it? Andy Wachowski, Lana Wachowski

Who the hell is in it? Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Eddie Redmayne

What do we know? Originally set for a summer 2014 release, the Wachowski's latest was delayed until 2015 in order to touch up effects. Kunis plays a janitor who discovers she is the heir to the royal family of Earth. Tatum is the warrior sent to convince her of this.

Project Almanac

Who the devil made it? Dean Israelite

Who the hell is in it? Amy Landecker, Sofia Black-D'Elia, Virginia Gardner

What do we know? A bunch of young friends discover time travel in this found footage feature. This is another movie that had its release delayed, having been initially scheduled for February 2014.

Monsters: Dark Continent

Who the devil made it? Tom Green

Who the hell is in it? Johnny Harris, Sam Keeley, Joe Dempsie

What do we know? Busy with Godzilla sequels and Star Wars spin-offs, Monsters director Gareth Edwards sits out this sequel. This time the action is relocated to the Middle East, where a soldier ventures into the infected zone to retrieve his lost buddy.

Chappie

Who the devil made it? Neill Blomkamp

Who the hell is in it? Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, Sharlto Copley

What do we know? Blomkamp continues his foray in sci-fi, though in lighter mood than his previous offerings. Copley provides the voice of the title character, a robot kidnapped by gangsters.

Tomorrowland

Who the devil made it? Brad Bird

Who the hell is in it? George Clooney, Britt Robertson, Hugh Laurie

What do we know? Clooney and Robertson embark on a mission to the title location, a mysterious land caught between time and space. Tomorrowland is a popular theme park in Disneyland, and Disney just happen to be producing this film. Make of that what you will.

Selfless

Who the devil made it? Tarsem Singh

Who the hell is in it? Ryan Reynolds, Matthew Goode, Ben Kingsley

What do we know? In a plot that lies somewhere between Seconds and The Eye, a dying billionaire has his consciousness transferred into the body of a younger man, only to discover the dark secrets of his new host.

Equals

Who the devil made it? Drake Doremus

Who the hell is in it? Kristen Stewart, Nicholas Hoult, Guy Pearce

What do we know? In a future devoid of human emotion, Hoult and Stewart fall for each other after contracting a disease that causes the "sufferer" to experience feelings.

Predestination

Who the devil made it? Michael Spierig, Peter Spierig

Who the hell is in it? Ethan Hawke, Sarah Snook, Noah Taylor

What do we know? Drawing on Timecop and Minority Report, this Aussie flick features Hawke as a time travelling agent out to thwart a terrorist. It's an adaptation of All You Zombies, a short story by sci-fi legend Robert A Heinlein.
