One of the most controversial films of all time is director Ken Russell's The Devils. On its release in 1971 the film was publicly condemned by the Vatican and lambasted by many critics. In the decades since it has developed a cult following, and now for the first time ever fans will get to see Russell's definitive cut, newly restored in 4K, on the big screen.
Inspired by the true story of Urbain Grandier, a 17th century Catholic priest accused of witchcraft in the French town of Loudon, the film sees Oliver Reed play Grandier, with Vanessa Redgrave as the nun who becomes sexually obsessed with the priest.
The Devils returns to UK/ROI cinemas on October 30th.
