First look at the true life thriller.

Directed by Gus Van Sant (Elephant; Drugstore Cowboy) from a script by Austin Kolodney, Dead Man's Wire is based on the true story of Tony Kiritsis (Bill Skarsgård), who kidnapped his mortgage broker Richard O. Hall (Dacre Montgomery) in 1977 after falling behind on payments. Kiritsis attached a shotgun to the back of Hall's head with a wire that meant it would fire if the police shot the kidnapper.

The film also stars Al Pacino, Colman Domingo, Myha'la, Cary Elwes and John Robinson.

Dead Man's Wire is in US cinemas next January. A UK/ROI release has yet to be announced.

The official synopsis reads:

Based on a true story, the 1977 kidnapping of a prominent banker grips the nation and turns the abductor into an outlaw folk hero. As the media frenzy peaks, the standoff becomes a spectacle of desperation, defiance and blurred justice, which resonates even today.
