Originally released in 2000 when it scooped top prize at the Rotterdam Film
Festival, director Lou Ye's Suzhou River has been newly
restored in 4K.
The Vertigo-esque drama stars as a man whose plot to kidnap the woman he loves, Moudan
(Zhou Xun), seems to end in her drowning. Released from prison he
encounters a woman who appears to be a double of Moudan.
The 4K restoration will play at New York's Film Forum from February 17th.
A UK/ROI release has yet to be announced.

The official synopsis reads:
Along the banks of the Suzhou River, which winds precariously through Shanghai, Marden (Jia), a fitfully employed videographer, falls in love with a beautiful young go-go dancer named Moudan (Zhou). When he tries kidnapping her in an attempt to get ransom money from her rich father, Moudan escapes by jumping into the river, disappearing seemingly forever. But, upon his release from a three-year jail term, Marden meets a woman named MeiMei (also played by Zhou), who looks exactly like Moudan.
