Sankey's exploration of the rom-com comes to MUBI in May.
Best known as a member of the band Summer Camp, Elizabeth Sankey makes her filmmaking debut with Romantic Comedy, a feature length exploration of a genre that's all too often dismissed when it comes to serious critical analysis.
Soundtracked by original songs by Summer Camp, Sankey's film features a roster of actors, filmmakers and critics, who probe the rom-com genre from its origins to its modern day incarnations.
Romantic Comedy debuts on MUBI May 7th.
Check out the trailer, poster and official synopsis below.
The official synopsis reads:
ROMANTIC COMEDY is a documentary that goes beneath the surface of our favourite films, seeking to better understand the way we view love, relationships and romance. From 'It Happened One Night' to 'Runaway Bride', from clumsy meet cutes to rain-soaked declarations of love, these films reflect our experiences but are often just as problematic as they are comforting.
