With acclaimed filmmaker John Boorman directing a sequel to one of the biggest box office sensations of the 1970s, 1977's Exorcist II: The Heretic should have been a slam dunk. But after a strong opening weekend, word of mouth spread that the movie was a turkey and critics widely panned it. In the decades since, Boorman's film has been re-evaluated and garnered a cult following.
Director David Kittredge's documentary Boorman and the Devil takes a deep dive into the debacle of Exorcist II, featuring interviews with Boorman, Linda Blair, Louise Fletcher, Karyn Kusama, Joe Dante, Mike Flanagan and more.
Boorman and the Devil is in US cinemas from August 28th. A UK/ROI release has yet to be announced.
