Ari Aster might be known as a horror filmmaker thanks to his first
two movies -
Hereditary
and
Midsommar
- but for his third feature he's dabbling in comedy.
Beau is Afraid does seem to have nightmarish elements however.
Precise plot details have yet to be established but
Joaquin Phoenix plays a man who appears to find himself trapped in
strange circumstances, with the actor seeming to play four different
versions of his character at various ages.
The film also stars
Nathan Lane, Amy Ryan, Stephen Mckinley Henderson, Hayler Squires,
Denis Ménochet, Kylie Rogers, Armen Nahapetian, Parker Posey
and Pattie Lupone.
Beau is Afraid is in US cinemas from April 21st with a
UK/ROI release yet to be announced.

The official synopsis reads:
A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and ingeniously depraved new film from writer/director Ari Aster.
