Based on the best-selling novel by the late John le Carré, director Martin Ritt's 1965 thriller
The Spy Who Came in from the Cold bucked the spy movie
genre, then dominated by James Bond and his clones, by delivering a down
and dirty look at the espionage world. Richard Burton plays a spy
based in East Germany whose latest assignment is jeopardised when he falls
for a librarian (Claire Bloom).
The Spy Who Came in from the Cold makes its UK blu-ray
debut courtesy of Eureka Entertainment on May 17th. The first 2000 copies
come with a limited edition slipcase. Bonus features include a new audio commentary with film scholar Adrian Martin; a new video essay by critic and filmmaker David Cairns; and a 48-page
collector's booklet.
