The Saw franchise keeps spinning its blades.
Once an annual event, the Saw franchise seemed to take its last dying breath with Jigsaw, 2017's poorly received attempt to revive the series. Well, the producers aren't calling it quits just yet, with Spiral, a Saw sequel in all but name, hitting cinemas this summer.
Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who has previously helmed three entries in the series, Spiral stars a curiously cast Chris Rock as a police detective whose investigation of a series of murders draws him into a mysterious killer's deadly games.
Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols and Samuel L. Jackson also star.
Spiral is in US cinemas May, with a UK/ROI release yet to be announced.
Check out the first trailer below.
The official synopsis reads:
A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in SPIRAL, the terrifying new chapter from the book of SAW. Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
