A new video compares Denzel Washington's adaptation of Fences with the original stage production.
For better or worse, Denzel Washington's screen adaptation of August Wilson's play Fences is faithful to the letter, practically a literal translation of Wilson's words. But as this video, edited by Ollie Paxton, shows, translating a scene to a cinema screen can wildly change its tone. Few would consider Washington's film a laugh riot, so it's startling to hear the reaction of the play's audience, which almost makes the footage play like a scene from a sitcom.
