Audrey Diwan finds herself nominated in the Director category at this year’s BAFTA Film Awards for her 1960s set
drama Happening.
The film stars Anamaria Vartolomei, winner of the Most Promising Actress award at
the recent Cesar Awards, and is adapted from the autobiographical short story by author Annie Ernaux.
Vartolomei plays a student with a right future who finds her plans thrown
into disarray when she becomes pregnant.
Happening is in UK/ROI cinemas from April 22nd.

The official synopsis reads:
Happening is set in France in 1963 and tells the story of Anne, a bright young student with a promising future ahead of her. But when she falls pregnant, she sees the opportunity to finish her studies and escape the constraints of her social background disappearing. With her final exams fast approaching and her belly growing, Anne resolves to act, even if she has to confront shame and pain, even if she must risk prison to do so…
