Godard's debut celebrates 60 years with a new 4k restoration.

Jean-Luc Godard's directorial debut, 1960's Breathless, turns 60 this year, and to celebrate, a new 4K restoration of the film is coming to UK home formats.

Breathless saw five icons of the French New Wave come together in director Godard, screenwriter Francois Truffaut, cinematographer Raoul Coutard and stars Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg. Belmondo plays a Parisian thug who models himself on the tough guys of American cinema. When he kills a policeman, he attempts to talk his American girlfriend (Seberg) into fleeing to Italy, leading to one of the most famously ambiguous utterances in cinema.

Breathless will be released on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital, and as a 4K UHD Limited Collector’s Edition (exclusive to Amazon.co.uk) on 9th November. The Collector's Edition comes with a 12" vinyl original soundtrack by Martin Solal, 40-page booklet, poster and art cards.

Check out a new clip from the restoration below.

The official synopsis reads:

Michel Poiccard (Jean-Paul Belmondo) considers himself a suave bad guy in the manner of Humphrey Bogart with his cigarettes, hat, sunglasses and determined unconformity. While driving a stolen car he impulsively kills a policeman. Hiding out in his student girlfriend Patricia’s (Jean Seberg) Paris apartment he tries to pull together enough money to get the pair to Italy. But when Patricia learns that her boyfriend is being investigated for murder, she begins to question her loyalties.
