First look at the Transformers franchise expansion.
Detractors of Transformers head honcho Michael Bay have often wondered what the franchise might be like if the much derided director handed over the reigns to another helmer. Well, we may get a hint of how a Transformers movie might play out without Bay behind the camera when the Travis Knight directed spin-off Bumblebee hits cinemas at the end of the year.
Set in the 1980s, Bumblebee stars Hailee Steinfeld as a teen who stumbles upon the titular Volkswagen Transformer, voiced here by Martin Short. John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., John Ortiz, Jason Drucker, Pamela Adlon and Stephen Shneider also star.
Bumblebee is in UK/ROI cinemas December 26th.
The official synopsis reads:
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
