Who Should Be The Next James Bond?

It appears Daniel Craig is done playing 007, so who should replace him?

It seems everyone has an opinion on who should be the next Bond, with some asking for a black Bond or a female (Jane?) Bond. Let's take a look at the four names that have gained the most traction.

Tom Hiddleston

As soon as the first episode of John le Carre adaptation The Night Manager aired on BBC back in February, Twitter was ablaze with cries of "Hiddleston for Bond!!!". It seems the franchise's producers may have taken note, as it's been widely reported that Hiddleston has held meetings with producer Barbara Broccoli and director Sam Mendes.

Idris Elba

The Luther star has long been the internet's choice to don the tux after Craig departs, and he would certainly be a historic choice, becoming the first non-white actor to play Ian Fleming's spy. There's been no indication of interest from those in charge however, and Elba's involvement in the adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower could limit his availability.

Damian Lewis

Could we finally have a ginger Bond? Last year, UK bookmaker William Hill surprisingly slashed the odds of the Homeland star acquiring the role to as low as 3/1 on their 'Next James Bond betting with William Hill' page. Given Bond's Scottish roots, it would make canonical sense to have him played by a redhead. We just don't want a repeat of his awful Scottish accent from The Silent Storm.

Gillian Anderson

It's highly unlikely, given how reluctant mainstream cinema is to headline movies with women, but many have expressed a desire to see Craig replaced with a female star, a 'Jane Bond'. When the X-Files actress nominated herself on twitter, the social network lost its mind, and with Anderson looking fitter than ever, we can definitely see the potential.
