A new 4K restoration of Michael Mann's classic thriller comes to UK/ROI cinemas in September.

The first screen appearance of Hannibal Lecktor, Michael Mann's Manhunter celebrates its 40th anniversary this year with the release of a new 4K restoration.

Adapted from Thomas Harris's novel 'Red Dragon', the film stars William Petersen as FBI profiler Will Graham, determined to hunt down a serial killer known as the Tooth Fairy (Tom Noonan). Graham reluctantly seeks help from Lecktor (Brian Cox), an incarcerated killer who almost made Graham one of his victims.

"40 years ago – though armed with Thomas Harris' excellent novel, 'Red Dragon' – its subject matter, the profiling of serial killers, as well as being shocking and raw, was unknown," says Mann. "When adapting, I wanted to make its storytelling deliver audiences into a certain state of threat and emotional engagement. Integral to that was the visualization and use of music with lyrics sometimes working like a libretto. We have carefully remastered the film to try to evoke that mood and intensity, heightened with audio sourced from the original 5.1 35mm analog masters. This latest iteration is that version of the film with which I'm most satisfied."

Manhunter: The Final Cut is in UK/ROI cinemas from September 25th. November 30th sees the release of the film on 4K UHD, bluray and digital.
