You wait your whole life for a body horror comedy in which a self-conscious Asian teen transforms herself into a blonde-haired white girl, and then two come along at once. Following Sasha Rainbow's Grafted we now have writer/director Amy Wang's similarly themed Slanted.
The film stars Shirley Chen as Joan, a Chinese-American teen who dreams of becoming her high school's prom queen. Aware that such a role has only historically been given to blonde-haired white girls, Joan undergoes a revolutionary procedure to turn herself into a Caucasian (McKenna Grace).
Fang Du, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Amelie Zilbe also star.
Slanted is in US cinemas from March 13th. A UK/ROI release has yet to be announced.

The official synopsis reads:
Joan Huang idolizes the popular girls and dreams of being prom queen, but fears the only way to win is to look like all the past queens whose portraits line her high school halls. Enter Ethnos: a mysterious cosmetic surgery clinic that makes people of color appear white. Joan undergoes the procedure and wakes up a beautiful blonde destined for the crown, but at what cost?
