Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi (No Bears; Taxi Tehran) won the Palme d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival for It Was Just an Accident, which sees him continue to defy his country's authoritarian regime. The film is centred on a group of former political prisoners who kidnap a man they believe was responsible for their torture.
Ebrahim Azizi, Vahid Mobasheri, Mariam Afshari, Hadis Pakbaten, Majid Panahi and Mohamad Ale Elyasmehr star.
It Was Just an Accident is in UK/ROI cinemas from December 5th.

The official synopsis reads:
When auto mechanic Vahid unexpectedly encounters the man who may have been his torturer in prison, he kidnaps him with the intention to exact vengeance. But since the only clue to Eghbal’s identity is the distinct squeak of his prosthetic leg, Vahid turns to a loose circle of other now-freed victims for confirmation. And the danger only escalates. As they deal with their past and diverging worldviews, the group struggles to decide: Is this him, without a doubt? What would retribution mean, in actuality?
