Of all the "Movie Brats" who dominated American cinema in the 1970s,
Paul Schrader is arguably the one who continues to produce the most
interesting work. He's on something of a roll with his last three films
being
Dog Eat Dog, his masterpiece
First Reformed
and
The Card Counter, so there's much hype for his latest.
Master Gardener stars Joel Edgerton as Narvel, a
gardener who takes a job at the estate of the wealthy Mrs. Haverhill (Sigourney Weaver). When he's forced to take Haverhill's young great-niece Maya (Quintessa Swindell) on as an apprentice, his dark past as a white
supremacist comes back to haunt him. Esai Morales also stars.
Master Gardener is in UK/ROI cinemas from May 26th.
