Directed by Ali Abbasi (Border), Holy Spider is inspired by the true story of
Iranian serial killer Saeed Hanaei. The film stars Cannes Best Actress Award
winner Zar Amir Ebrahimi as the journalist who sets out to expose the
killer, who is targeting sex workers. The film has been picked as Denmark’s submission for Best International
Feature for the 2023 Academy Awards.
Holy Spider is in UK/ROI cinemas from January 20th, 2023
and will stream on MUBI from March 10th.

Set in the holy city of Mashhad, Ali Abbasi’s haunting latest feature follows journalist Rahimi (Zar Amir Ebrahimi), as she investigates the murders of several sex workers by the ‘Spider Killer’, who believes he is on a divine mission to cleanse the city of sinners.
