Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder rules the Official Film Chart for the very first time following its release on disc.
The sequel to 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, starring Chris Hemsworth once again as the eponymous character, is the 29th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and climbs from Number 4 to Number 1 thanks to its release on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD. In Thor: Love and Thunder, Thor’s retirement (and search for inner peace) comes to an end after a deadly new adversary named Gorr the God Butcher seeks to make all gods extinct.
Thor’s success sees it finish 6.5k sales ahead of this week’s Number 2 – and highest new entry of the week – action-comedy Bullet Train, whose starring cast includes Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Brian Tyree Henry.
Last week’s chart-topper Jurassic World Dominion falls to Number 3, landing just ahead of Despicable Me origin story Minions: The Rise of Gru at Number 4. With Steve Carell once again at the helm as much-loved villain Gru, we learn all about one twelve-year-old’s dream to become the world’s greatest supervillain. Biopic Elvis stumbles to Number 5.
Where The Crawdads Sing is up next and our third brand new entry in this week’s Top 10. Daisy Edgar-Jones stars in this murder-mystery thriller based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Delia Owens.
Next up is former Number 1 Top Gun: Maverick (7) followed by The Railway Children Return (8) which zooms up 26 places to Number 8, entering the Top 10 for the first time. Rounding off this week’s Top 10 are horror The Black Phone (9) and Downton Abbey: A New Era (10).
