Altman's ensemble drama comes to UK blu-ray in July.
In the 1980s, with his available budgets shrinking in the wake of Popeye's disastrous box office showing, director Robert Altman turned his attention to adapting a series of theatrical plays for the screen.
Adapted from his own play by Ed Graczyk, 1982's Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean stars Cher, Sandy Dennis and Karen Black as three women who meet up in a small Texas town for a reunion of their fan club devoted to actor James Dean. The movie also features Kathy Bates in one of her earliest roles.
Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean makes its UK blu-ray debut on July 22nd when Eureka Entertainment will release a dual format DVD/blu-ray edition (order from Eureka or Amazon).
Bonus features include a commentary by film historian Lee Gambin; interviews with editor Jason Rosenfield and art director David Gropman; original trailer; and a collector’s booklet featuring a new essay by film critic Alexandra Heller-Nicholas.
