First trailer for the acclaimed abuse drama.
One of the most talked about movies to debut at this year's Sundance Film Festival was writer/director Jennifer Fox’s child abuse drama The Tale, and to everyone's surprise the film wasn't picked up by a theatrical distributor but rather by US cable network HBO, who will premiere The Tale on May 26th in the US.
Based on Fox's own experiences, The Tale stars Laura Dern as a journalist who begins to investigate her childhood friendship with two adults (played in flashbacks by Elizabeth Debicki and Jason Ritter, and in contemporary scenes by Frances Conroy and the late John Heard in one of his final roles), uncovering the grim reality of the relationship.
Whether the film will receive a UK/ROI cinema release, or premiere on Sky Atlantic like most HBO content, has yet to be determined.
