A new video essay pays tribute to John Sturges' wartime classic.
The joke around The Great Escape is that it's the movie you fall asleep during after your Christmas dinner. Most would agree however that it's a great film, and it likely tops many lists of the greatest war movies ever made. Yet it's a movie we take for granted, and it's rarely spoken about in cinephile circles. That makes this video essay by A Thousand Words, which analyses Sturges' direction, all the more welcome.
