A MOST VIOLENT YEAR, written and directed by J.C. Chandor, will be released in the UK and Ireland on 23 January 2015 through Icon Film Distribution, starring Golden Globe® nominee Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) and two-time Academy Award® nominee Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty).
A MOST VIOLENT YEAR is a drama set in New York City during the winter of 1981, statistically one of the most violent years in the city’s history. The film follows the lives of an immigrant and his family trying to expand their business and capitalize on opportunities as the rampant violence, decay, and corruption of the day drag them in and threaten to destroy all they have built.
This gritty exploration of the American dream stars Isaac and Chastain in the leading roles as husband and wife Abel and Anna Morales, alongside a strong supporting cast including: Albert Brooks (Drive); David Oyelowo (The Butler); Alessandro Nivola (American Hustle); Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace); and British newcomer Elyes Gabel (Game of Thrones, Interstellar).
The film is Chandor’s third feature as writer-director following the critically acclaimed and award-winning films Margin Call (2011) and All is Lost (2013). A MOST VIOLENT YEAR reunites Chandor with his All is Lost Production Designer John P. Goldsmith and features an original score by Alex Ebert, who was awarded a Golden Globe® for his work on All is Lost. They are joined by Director of Photography Bradford Young (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints), Costume Designer Kasia Walicka Maimone (Capote) and Editor Ron Patane (Blue Valentine).
