J.J. Abrams rumoured to start filming Star Trek 3 in 2014

J.J. Abrams is rumoured to be returning to film the third addition in his successful Star Trek reboot next year. The news came from Zachary Quinto during a public interview at the 2013 Galway Film Fleadh, where the star discussed his career roles in Heroes, American Horror Story and Star Trek, in which he plays Spock.

According to BuzzHub, Quinto said:

“Star Trek 3 should be filming, I suppose, next year. It’s going to be made a lot quicker than the last one. That’s the plan, although nothing is confirmed yet.”

Quinto also dropped hints that Abrams will be returning as director. Although he did not elaborate further, filming of Star Trek 3 in 2014 would fit in with his commitments to direct Star Wars: Episode VII, if it’s completed by the planned release date of summer 2015.

Abrams achieved great success with his 2009 Star Trek cinematic release, which won the 2010 Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling and was even adapted into an online slot game at MoneyGaming.com. The 2013 release of Star Trek: Into Darkness enjoyed even better results than its predecessor, taking £8.4 million in its debut weekend to open in the UK box office top spot.
