A new restoration of Losey's classic is coming in September.

Set to premiere at next month's Edinburgh Film Festival is a new 4K restoration of director Joseph Losey's 1963 drama The Servant.

Adapted by screenwriter Harold Pinter from Robin Maugham's novel, The Servant stars Dirk Bogarde as Barrett, a manservant who worms his way into the affections of a foppish aristocrat (James Fox). As Barrett achieves his insidious goals, the roles of master and servant begin to reverse.

The restoration premieres at the Edinburgh Film Festival on August 19th. It will be released in UK cinemas on September 10th, followed on September 20th by a release on 4K UHD Collector’s edition Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital.

Bonus features on the collector's edition include interviews with James Fox, Wendy Craig, Sarah Miles and Stephen Woolley; archival pieces on Losey and Pinter; a location featurette; video essay by Matthew Sweet and Phuong Le; and a 64-page booklet with essays from Peter Bradshaw and Anna Smith.

Check out the new trailer and poster below.

The official synopsis reads:

Marking the first of three collaborations between director Joseph Losey and celebrated playwright Harold Pinter, THE SERVANT follows sly and seductive manservant Barrett (Bogarde) as he worms his way in to the affections of foppish aristocrat Tony (Fox).  Barrett’s awe-inspiring efficiency cleverly masks his true intentions, ultimately giving way to a suspicious and insidious control where the roles of master and servant are reversed.
