New trailer for the based on true events thriller.
Australian director Phillip Noyce scored a breakout hit with 1989's Dead Calm and found himself a staple of Hollywood in the '90s, directing such blockbusters as Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. In recent decades he's worked more in TV, but returns to feature filmmaking with the unimaginatively titled Above Suspicion.
Based on true events, the film tells the story of an FBI agent (Jack Huston) who caused a scandal when his relationship with a female informant (Emilia Clarke) led to his becoming the first FBI agent convicted of murder. Sophie Lowe and Johnny Knoxville also star.
A UK/ROI release has yet to be announced but you can check out the trailer and official synopsis below.
The official synopsis reads:
Nothing is more dangerous than someone with nothing to lose. Based on the chilling true story of a newly married FBI poster boy assigned to an Appalachian mountain town in Kentucky. There, he is drawn into an illicit affair with an impoverished local woman who becomes his star informant. She sees in him her means of escape; instead, it is a ticket to disaster for both of them. This scandal shook the foundations of the nation's top law enforcement agency, ending in the first-ever conviction of an FBI agent for murder.
