Bujalski's comic drama finally comes to UK cinemas in June.
Fans of writer/director Andrew Bujalski (Computer Chess; Results) on this side of the Atlantic have had quite the wait to see his latest, Support the Girls, which hit US cinemas to much acclaim last summer.
The film stars Regina Hall as the put-upon manager of 'Double Whammies', a Hooters style restaurant, as she negotiates a day filled with drama. The cast also includes Haley Lu Richardson, Dylan Gelula, Brooklyn Decker, James Le Gros and Lea DeLaria.
On setting Support the Girls in a slice of Americana rarely portrayed on screen, Bujalski says "I’m interested in the unspoken rules that people agree to live by. I guess that's what made a restaurant like Double Whammies so interesting to me: there's a perverse set of assumptions, but it more or less works. While it is a very specific story in many ways, I hope that anyone who's ever worked for a living will relate. Most of us have to buy/sell one crazy ‘concept’ or another to pay our bills, and some days, you're not sure if your humor and dignity will survive to the end of the shift..."
Support the Girls is in UK cinemas June 28th.

SUPPORT THE GIRLS follows Lisa (Regina Hall), the general manager at Double Whammies, a highway-side ‘sports bar with curves’, who has her normally unstoppable optimism and faith – in her girls, her customers, and herself – tested over the course of a long, strange day.
