Dario Argento fans have been sighing at the idea of a remake of his horror masterpiece Suspiria for quite a while now, but some fears were alleviated when it was announced it would be directed by his countryman, Call Me by Your Name's Luca Guadagnino.

Judging by this trailer, it appears Guadagnino has wisely chosen not to imitate the distinctive primary colour scheme of Argento's original while delivering an aesthetic that appears grounded in '70s Italian cinema.

Plot details are scarce, but it seems to roughly follow that of the original, with Dakota Johnson playing a young American ballerina who takes a position at a German academy with some dark secrets. Tilda Swinton, Mia Goth, Jessica Harper and Chloe Grace Moretz also star.

Suspiria doesn't have a UK/ROI release date yet, but it opens in the US in November. Check out the first US trailer below and let us know what you think.

The official synopsis reads:

A darkness swirls at the center of a world-renowned dance company, one that will engulf the troupe's artistic director, an ambitious young dancer, and a grieving psychotherapist. Some will succumb to the nightmare. Others will finally wake up.
