The Art of John Alvin celebrates the iconic movie artist

Titan Books has released a stunning new collection of artwork from the late John Alvin, an artist whose work is familiar to all movie lovers, even if they aren't familiar with his name.

John Alvin (1948-2008) was an American cinematic artist and painter who illustrated some of the 20th century’s most iconic movie posters. Alvin began his poster career with Blazing Saddles in 1974, and went on to produce the posters for several Disney blockbusters and numerous other smash hits. His most recent work was on the campaign for Disney’s Enchanted. John’s wife, Andrea, also a painter, lives in California and his Broadway actress daughter, Farah, lives and works in NYC.

Alvin’s distinctive and world-renowned movie posters characterize some of the twentieth century’s most-loved, classic films from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Pinocchio, to Empire of the Sun, The Goonies, The Godfather Part III, Blazing Saddles and Burton’s Batman movies, as well as several Star Wars Celebrations. This collection not only showcases his finest art, but contains previously unseen comprehensives and in-progress sketches for each work, and is accompanied by commentary from John’s wife, colleagues and admirers and a foreword by Jeffrey Katzenberg (Co-Founder, CEO and Director of DreamWorks Animation SKG; Chairman of Walt Disney Studios 1984-1994).
