It's been a long wait for UK fans of Kelly Reichardt, with her
latest, First Cow, arriving well over a year since its US release.
With First Cow, writer/director Reichardt returns to the American frontier milieu she
previously explored with 2010's Meek's Cutoff.
Adapted from the novel 'The Half Life' by Jonathan Raymond,
First Cow is set in the Oregon Territory of the 19th century
and stars John Magaro as a cook who goes into business with a
Chinese immigrant (Orion Lee) making cakes from milk stolen from
the local land baron's prize cow.
The late René Auberjonois appears in his final screen role,
alongside Alia Shawkat, Toby Jones, Ewen Bremner and
Lily Gladstone.
First Cow is in UK cinemas from May 28th.

The official synopsis reads:
A taciturn loner and skilled cook (John Magaro) has traveled west and joined a group of fur trappers in Oregon Territory, though he only finds true connection with a Chinese immigrant (Orion Lee) also seeking his fortune. Soon the two collaborate on a successful but precarious cake-making business, the longevity of which is reliant upon the clandestine participation of a wealthy landowner’s prized milking cow – the very first, and only, in the territory.
