First look at Edgerton's upcoming drama.
The subject of gay conversion is tackled in two upcoming films - Desiree Akhavan's The Miseducation of Cameron Post and Joel Edgerton's second film as director, Boy Erased. The latter just dropped its first trailer.
Adapted from Garrard Conley's memoir, Boy Erased stars Lucas Hedges as a teenager outed to his parents (Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman), who attempt to make their son undergo a programme of gay conversion therapy.
Boy Erased doesn't have a UK/ROI release date yet, but you can check out the new US trailer below.
The official synopsis reads:
“Boy Erased” tells the story of Jared (Hedges), the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, who is outed to his parents (Kidman and Crowe) at age 19. Jared is faced with an ultimatum: attend a conversion therapy program – or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends, and faith. Boy Erased is the true story of one young man’s struggle to find himself while being forced to question every aspect of his identity.
